Welcome to my website!

About me

Brian DistelbergI’m a historian of twentieth-century U.S. culture and politics, and a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of History at Yale University. My dissertation examines marginalized groups’ struggles for fair representation in American mass entertainment in the twentieth century. My broad research and teaching interests include U.S. history since 1865, U.S. cultural history, gay and lesbian history, the history of gender and sexuality, African American history, urban history, and the regional history of New England in the twentieth century.

About this website

I aim to use this website to communicate about my research, academic interests, and professional activities and to interact with both colleagues and members of the broader public. In addition to my CV, which provides background on my training, presentations, and professional service, separate pages detail my publications and teaching experience. You can also read more about my dissertation.

From May 2010 to February 2011, I used this space to blog semi-regularly about my current research, contemporary politics and culture, LGBT issues, and other topics related to my academic interests. Although the blog is no longer active, you can read an archive of my posts.

I always welcome comments, questions, and suggestions by e-mail.

Elsewhere online

In addition to this website, there are several other ways to connect with me and my work online. I use my Twitter account to publicize new blog posts and to share interesting news and links from around the web. On my YouTube channel, I collect videos I’ve used in teaching. I also have a Facebook page to stay in touch with friends, and I maintain (though don’t often use) a LinkedIn profile for professional contacts.
